Listiki is go!

Posted in 1 by alexoid on November 24, 2009

Good news everyone. Listiki was selected as one of the four OpenFund finalists that got seed funding. Most excellent stuff as this also meant meeting some really interesting people doing great things. Congratulations to Fashinating, CrawdOut and YouScan who also made the cut. I'm going to be following their progress and hopefully meet again in the next 4 months. Let's get back to work.

Cyta, Forthnet & Cosmos Trading merge (their logos)

Posted in 1 by alexoid on November 9, 2009

Never liked the new Cyta logo, as some of you know and always thought it was unoriginal and generally displaying pretty poor execution. Artemis Psathas’ blog post goes further into explaining why this logo is so weak. If you’re not going to look good, at least look different.

Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien knows nothing about the internets

Posted in 1 by alexoid on November 4, 2009

Really respect his music, not so much his opinion on file sharing. Saying that throttling is the answer to piracy is uninformed, implying that losing the ability to track users is a problem just a little creepy.

I think that before we can start talking about changing the way the internet works so musicians don’t lose out on revenues let’s try to make a couple of things happen: kill DRM so legal downloads are an equal product to illegal ones, help and keep promoting things like Spotify or Zune Pass and remove geographical restrictions so the whole planet can enjoy the same product at the same time.

Ed, stop listening to Lilly Allen.

Tauntaun wedding cake makes geeks hungry/nauseous

Posted in 1 by alexoid on October 24, 2009

This groom’s cake for Star Wars artist Chris Trevas mimics the iconic scene from The Empire Strikes Back including freezing Luke and life-saving guts. Han Solo: “And I thought they smelled bad…on the outside.” Maybe, but it sure is delicious. Love it.
